Grant Decisions - September 24, 2008

The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation held a board meeting on May 28,
2008 and approved the following grants (all grants are to Chicago-area
organizations unless noted otherwise).

For Arts:

Auditorium Theater: $5,000 to support a lecture by the director of the opera, "Margaret Garner."

Chicago Sinfonietta: $10,000 for the transition to a new conducter as the founding conducter retires.

Emergence Dance Theater: $10,000 for Dance Chicago 2008.

Gene Siskel Film Center:  $12,500 for general operations.

Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation: $15,000 for general operations.

National Museum of Mexican Art: $10,000 for the Sor Juana Festival.

 

For Built Environment:

Stuart Cohen: $11,000 for a book on "The Country Houses of Howard Van Doren Shaw."

Design Evanston: $5,000 for a website to advertise their services to encourage better design in Evanston, Illinois.

Friends of the Chicago River:  $15,000 for the Bridgehouse and Chicago River Museum.

Holy Cross College: $15,000 towards the transformation of their campus in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Melrose Park Public Library: Towards the restoration of a depression-era (1937) artwork mural: $5,000 grant plus $10,000 in a one-to-one matching grant.

South Chicago Art Center:  $10,000 to construct a picket fence around a large garden in South Chicago.

The Waterfront Center: $5,000 towards an international conference on waterfront planning.

 

For Economic Opportunity for the Working Poor:

Community Loan Fund: $15,000 to further implement plans to promote good, green design elements into community projects.

 

For Investigative Reporting:

 Community Media Workshop: $15,000 for the Studs Terkel Awards
