Grant Decisions - November 12, 2008
The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation held a board meeting on November 12, 2008 and approved the following grants (all grants are to Chicago-area organizations unless noted otherwise):
For Arts:
League of Chicago Theatres: $12,500 for the Emerging Theatres Roundtable, a new series of free discussion and trainings focused on the needs of theater companies with budgets under $50,000;
For Built Environment:
Canal Corridor Association: $50,000 for the Visitor Center.
Designer/builder Magazine (Santa Fe, New Mexico): $15,000 for a periodical that covers design and architecture from a social justice perspective.
Designs for Dignity: $25,000 for general operating
Erie Neighborhood House: $10,000 for an on-line resource to increase green space in the Little Village neighborhood.
The Experimental Station: $20,100 to support the position of the Office Manager.
Jane Addams Hull House Museum: $25,000 for the exhibit/education program, "Architectural Encounters."
Logan Square Neighborhood Association: $10,000 for the third series of training programs for Lathrop Homes leaders to work to preserve the housing complex.
MCA: $15,00 for an exhibit on Buckminster Fuller.
Smithsonian Institution: $50,000 for design competition to select an architect for the newest, and last, building on the Washington D.C. mall.
For Economic Opportunity for the Working Poor:
Chicago Urban League: $25,000 to produce video segments for programs on economic empowerment in the African-American community.
Executive Service Corps of Chicago: $30,000 for the start-up costs for a SWAT team that would intervene in non-profits that are in crisis.
Lazarus House: $15,000 for an emergency shelter program and homelessness prevention services.
For Government Accountability/Investigative Reporting:
Center for Investigative Reporting (Berkeley, CA): $30,000 in support of Midwest reporting
Community Media Workshop: $25,000 to develop a business plan to start a local investigative journalism website.
