Grant Decisions - August 6, 2009
The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation held a board meeting on August 6, 2009 and approved the following grants (all grants are to Chicago-area organizations unless noted otherwise):
For Arts:
-Arts & Business Council of Chicago: $30,000 for each of 2 years for general operations;
-Lawyers for the Creative Arts: $20,000 for general operations;
-Gene Siskel Film Center: $12,500 for general operations
-Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation: $15,000 for general operations
For the Built Environment:
-Active Transportation Alliance: $25,000 for "Healthy Streets Chicago;"
-Logan Square Neighborhood Association: $20,000 to support a campaign to preserve Lathrop Homes;
-Public Architecture: 3-year grant for general operations: $30,000 in 2009; $20,000 matching grant in 2010; and $15,000 matching grant in 2011;
-Roosevelt Square: $15,000 to refurbish Edgar Miller's Animal Court statues;
-Swedish Covenant Hospital: $7,500 for the "Healing Journey" art exhibit;
For Economic Opportunity for the Working Poor:
-Emergency Fund: $30,000 for each of 2 years for their Financial Assistance Program;
-South Side Community Federal Credit Union: $20,000 for general operations;
-Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law: $35,000 to support "work supports;"
From the General funding area:
-Music Theatre Workshop: $25,000 to support programs for girls in Warrenville and for boys in the Youth Center in Chicago;
for Government Accountability & Investigative Reporting:
-Better Government Association: $90,000 for the investigative unit + $10,000 for awards to investigative reporters in 2009 and $50,000 matching grant for the investigative unit + $10,000 for awards to investigative reporters in 2010;
for Museums:
-Chicago Cultural Alliance: $25,000 for general operations;
-Vivian Harsh Society: $5,000 for the Timuel D. Black Jr., Fund
