Grant Decisions December 14, 2010

The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation approved the following grants on December 14, 2010 (all grants are to Chicago-area organizations unless noted otherwise):

For Arts:

-Arts Alliance Illinois:  $10,000 for the 2011 Chicago Non-Partisan Mayoral Election Arts Advocacy Campaign;

-Chicago Human  Rhythm Project:  $25,000 for planning and implementation of the collaborative dance space project;

-Company of Folk: $10,000 to produce Volume 5 of a collection of CDs entitled "Folksongs of Illinois;"

-Gene Siskel Film Center:  $12,500 for general operations;

-Shanti Foundation for Peace:  $10,000 planning grant for “Ten Thousand Ripples,” a public art project;

For the Built Environment:

-The Association of Architecture Organizations:  $50,000 one-time grant to build a more sophisticated website;

-Chicago Community Loan Fund:  $10,000 to further implement plans to promote good, green design elements into community projects;

-Congress for the New Urbanism:$80,000 over two years for general operating support;

-Design Corps:  $15,000 for SEED, a relationship building initiative of architects, designers, and community groups culminating in the annual Structures for Inclusion (SFI) conference in March 2011 in Chicago;

-Designs for Dignity:  $25,000 for general operating and a $5,000 matching grant for board

-The Enterprise Community Partners:  $15,000 for the planning process, advisory group and creation of an operating and financial plan for a proposed National Community Design Initiative;

-Historic Chicago Bungalow Association: $100,000 a year for the next two years for the following:
       -National Register Historic District Designation; Driehaus Foundation Bungalow Rehab Awards; Preservation Education
    and Activities; Operations and Outreach;

-Logan Square Neighborhood Association: $25,000 to support the campaign to preserve Lathrop Homes;

-National Trust for Historic Preservation (Washington, D.C.):  $250,000 over 5 years to support Statewide and Local Partners

For Economic Opportunity for the Working Poor:

-Chicago Jobs Council:  $15,000 for a special educational & outreach event to celebrate CJC’s 30th anniversary and to prepare for CJC’s future;

-Housing Action Illinois:  $15,000 for a collaboration with Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement and the Shriver National Center on Poverty Law to make systemic changes in the administration and delivery of the Housing Choice Voucher program to increase access by lower income families to housing near opportunities for employment and good schools;

-Jane Addams Senior Caucus:  $8,000 to launch Learning to Act: Conversations with Seniors, a partnership between Jane Addams Senior Caucus (JASC) and the Neighborhood Writing Alliance (NWA)

-South Side Community Federal Credit Union:  $20,000 for general operations;

From the General funding category:

-Chicago Area Women's History Council:  $10,000 for the project "Documenting Women's Activism and Leadership in the Chicago Area, 1945-2000"

-Public Allies:  $30,000 to support the stipends of second-year Allies and to enhance the 2nd Year Program curriculum.

For Government Accountability/Investigative Reporting:

-The Center for Public Integrity (Washington, D.C.):  $25,000 for general operating;

-Media Matters for America (Washington, D.C.):  $20,000 for general operating.
