Grant Decisions July 19, 2011

The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation approved the following grants on July 19, 2011 (all grants are to Chicago-area

organizations unless noted otherwise):

For Arts:

-Arts & Business Council of Chicago: A two-year grant of $30,000 each year for general operating support;

-Arts Work Fund for Organizational Development: A two-year grant of $30,000 each year;

-DuSable Museum of African American History: $20,000 for an exhibit on “Geoffrey and Carmen: A memoir in four movements;”

For the Built Environment:

-Chicago Public Art Group: $5,000 for a book on artist and muralist William Walker, to be published by the University of

Illinois Press;

-Connect_to_ACTion: $15,000 planning grant for creating an organization to bring the role of good design into community

development across nonprofit fields;

-Congress for the New Urbanism: $10,000 for a strategic plan;

-Metropolitan Planning Council: $25,000 for "Placemaking Chicago;"

-Portland State University School of Architecture (Portland, OR): $6,250 to transcribe interviews that will be conducted as

part of the AIA Latrobe Research;

For Economic Opportunity for the Working Poor:

-The Cara Program:  $25,000 for general operations;

-Chicago Rehab Network:  $15,000 for government oversight and communications;

-Emergency Fund: a two-year grant of $25,000 each year for the Flexible Financial Fund

-Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law: A two-year grant of $35,000 each year in support of their advocacy efforts

to improve economic opportunities for Illinois’ working poor families;

From the General funding category:

-Asian Improv Arts Midwest: $5,000 to conduct filmed interviews of World War II prisoners that were in Japanese internment

camps.  The interviews focus on what happened to survivors after they re-settled in Chicago;

-Chicago SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) History Project: $5,000 to support the public launch of the

Chicago SNCC History archives at the Vivian G. Harsh Collection with “An Afternoon with Dick Gregory” on October 22, 2011;

-Executive Service Corps of Chicago: $15,000 for the Urgent Action Team

For Museums:

-National Public Housing Museum: $100,000 for general operating support
