Grant Decisions January 19, 2012

The Driehaus Foundation met on January 19, 2012 and approved the following grants (all grants are to Chicago-area organizations unless noted otherwise):

For Arts:

-Fear No Art Chicago:  $5,000 for production of three episodes of a new internet broadcast series called "The Dinner Party;"

-Gene Siskel Film Center:  $10,000 for general operating support;

-League of Chicago Theatres:  $15,000 for general operating support;

-Rush Hour Concerts at St. James Cathedral:  $5,000 for presentation of Make Music Chicago on June 21, 2012, all over the Chicago metropolitan area;

For The Built Environment:

-The Archimedia Workshop:  $5,000 for “Library Matters,” a film on the future of the American Public Library;

-Columbia College Chicago Press:  $12,500 for "Architecture of Segregation," a book edited by Greg Dreicer exploring relationship between race and place;

-Friends of Kilbourn Park:  $5,000 for the first phase of renovation of an historic greenhouse as an educational and garden center;

-Grandmother Park Initiative:  $5,000 matching grant to support a grassroots effort to build a park in a low-moderate income neighborhood in Evanston where no park now exists;

-Society of Architectural Historians (Chicago Architects Genealogy Advisory Committee):  $10,000 for an update of the 1993 Genealogy;

For Economic Opportunity/Working Poor:

-Women Employed:  $15,000 to support their ongoing successful work to reform City Colleges of Chicago;

From the General funding category:

-Benevolent:  $7,500 to support the start-up of a pilot organization to create a social networking site designed to foster individual giving to meet individual needs— connecting those who face a hurdle along their path to stability and success with those who wish to help;

-CEO's for Cities:  $15,000 to update “City Vitals,” a 2006 report making the case for more effective evaluative indicators for cities; ranks Metro Statistical Areas with more than 1 million population.
